There are in addition some excellent perch roach and on occasions surprises in the form of dace pike carp and bream.

Having just moved to bedfordshire i cant take the drive to the kennett any longer has anyone any info re the river ivel ive heard from the local tackle shops that there are barbel to be found i would appreciate any information. Species include chub to 5lb barbel to 15lb 5oz along with bream roach pike and the occassionaly eel. River ivel at girtford bridge sandy a nice mile or so of the ivel chub roach dace bream and perch here. Arguably the best barbel river in the country the sections at biggleswade back meadows and common are the most heavily fished for barbel with fish being regularly caught in double figures.
People still do fish it but its not the barbel river it was 10 years ago still some around and good chub roach and perch to be had.
